Trade Show Floor Style Guide

trade show style

SO, we are no fashion police, but we do have some advice after all trade shows

are our bread and butter. When going to a trade show there are 3 major points our expert trade show exhibitors

know to be true.

1. Comfort is the key to success at shows!

Most importantly comfortable feet. You get so much more from the show when your feet don’t hurt. Our team voted the Dr. Scholl’s

Vixen Leather Ballet Flats as the most preferred shoe on the trade show floor for women

and the Rockport Men’s Eureka Walking Shoe for men.

2. Professional vs. approachable.

Some shows allow a more relaxed attire hence probably, your wardrobe should be a somewhere between a full suit and ripped jeans plus Hawaiian shirt combo.

Furthermore always check out images of the event in past years to grasp a feel for how casual the event can be.

Sure a suit looks sharp, but at a relaxed show, you will look out of place.

3. The NO’s.

First of all, new is not always best. Do not make the rookie mistake of trying to break

in new shoes on the trade show floor. We all want to look our best, but when exhibiting at a show it is more important to be

comfortable. Above all try to coordinate your team’s outfits but avoid matching too much. It’s important for the

team members to be able to show individuality. Don’t forget to wear clothes with pockets. We strongly

advocate against pantyhose (that awful contraption device) heels and elaborate jewelry.

Finally, here are some tips on how to relieve trade show feet if you did choose the wrong shoes.

We think we have covered the bases here, let us know in the comments what your trade show tips are.

The Feng Shui booth display

Ben's asphalt

I don’t know if you believe in the Fengshui movement of natural energy, but ancient people sure did. Referred to as Chinese geometry, Fengshui translated means the movement of wind and water and claims to have channeled natural energy forces and movement to harmonize one’s body or space. It is closely linked to Daoism, a philosophy emphasizing living in harmony and balance. Using some of these eastern philosophies can help in the design of your trade show booth.

A Booth Display At First Glance

When first approaching the booth a few things are very important

  • Marked Entrance
  • Clutter-Free Environment
  • Bright Lighting
  • Vibrant Colors

Keeping all that in mind we suggest our CEB kit as a great tool to help declutter your booth as well as bring vibrant colors to your display.

The Lingerer

The ideal booth should feel inviting, there are very few times in life where you would want people to linger, the trade show is one. Plan your display with enough linger room because as a rule, the most people show up when you are unavailable to talk to them. An approachable booth not only is planed with a waiting room in mind but there is always some entertainment to distract the customer while they linger. That could be anything from a giveaway sign up sheet or a new product spec sheet.

The Colors

Most importantly is the feel of balanced energy, Fengshui insists that every color has a meaning. This chart gives some idea of what emotions color erupts.

The Energy

Bottom line, balance your display with, well-lighted and neat so the energy flow is not stagnant. Plan the waiting area well, and orientation is also something to think about. Ideally, according to Fengshui, the entrance of the booth should face west, but it’s up to you how literal you get with it. Make your booth warm and more inviting and approachable with bright lights and colors matched according to your product’s energy.

More than one way to hang

Just like there are many ways to bake a cake, there is more than one way to hang a backdrop. The way you exhibit at a trade show is evolving and there is no longer a standard booth. We cater to all types of shows, but some don’t provide exhibitors with proper hardware. Our table CEB has multiple options to combat that issue.

1. Universal Clamp + a Drape Support

We use this method when exhibiting with a CEB Kit Fabric Display. The universal clamp attaches firmly to any pipe regardless of the upright pipe’s diameter. Attaching the clamp allows you to hang a second drape support off the existing framework. The clamp is also perfect for drape layering, making display drape taught, or creating different heights on one setup. Our drape comes with 4-inch pockets top and bottom, the pocket is a perfect fit for our foldable drape support as well as our regular drape support. The bottom pocket allows the fabric to be taught with some extra clamps and a drape support.

2. Grommets + Hooks

Another great way to hang a backdrop is with grommets and hooks. This is the way we hang our most practical, compact, and affordable kit:  CEB Lite Kit Backdrop Display. This kit provides you with a custom printed backdrop featuring grommets along the top and universal hooks (sign hooks) in order to easily hang your kit to an existing booth. Very compact, this kit folds down to fit in a small tote or even your suitcase and allows you to conveniently store, transport, and attach to any existing pipe and drape system.

3. Free Standing Frame

Sometimes a trade show will not provide you with any pipe or drape. Our CEB Plus Kit is the entire system that solves that problem. It contains everything you need to make a freestanding display and is able to break apart into manageable and carryable pieces. The kit also includes the attachment hardware, so if there is existing hardware already, you can simply attach the kit to that. This ensures that the system is foolproof, even for one person to set up on their own.

No matter which way you choose to hang, happy exhibiting!

Curtains vs. Drapes

.curtains vs. drapes

Are they curtains or are they drapes? Now, we can print on almost anything with the process of dye sublimation, but for the record, we don’t print on curtains we print on drapes! What is the difference you may ask?

Curtains

Most people think curtains and drapes refer to the same thing and yes, in fact, they do share some similar features. But few people know that there is a difference not only by definition but by use as well. Curtains are lighter, made of thin, sometimes see-through material like sheer. Because of the nature of the fabric curtains are not to be used for privacy, the fabric that they are made from is not supposed to block light and its purpose is pure decoration. (our boss even has some in his office to “brighten up the place”).

Drapes

Drapes, on the other hand, are made from a thicker, heavier fabric where light doesn’t pass through as easily. That is why they are great for printing graphics. The drape fabrics also have different white points. Our fabric has the highest white point in the industry so our graphics appear brighter and more realistic.  Although our standard drapes do a pretty good job with blocking light, heat, noise, and providing privacy. We even offer a variety of heavy-duty blackout and sound blocking fabric. Drapes are high-quality and are usually more expensive than curtains. A lot of companies offer cheap exhibit backdrops because they print on curtain fabrics and at a well-lit trade show your booth will look well… cheap. So if you’re interested, get a free printed sample of our drape fabric.
